The BMW E92 M3 was the first M3 model to have a V8 engine and a dual-clutch transmission. It was also the first M3 to have a carbon fiber roof, reducing its weight and improving its handling. Another interesting fact is that the E92 M3 was used as a safety car in the Formula One World Championship in 2008 and 2009. The E92 M3 also had a special edition called the GTS, which had even more performance upgrades and was limited to only 150 units. Lastly, the E92 M3 was the last M3 model to have a naturally aspirated engine before switching to a turbocharged engine in the next generation.
